From well vision exams for eyewear and contact lenses, to eye disease diagnosis, treatment and management, our courteous and professional staff will assist you and your family.

Well Vision Examination

Complete vision analysis and ocular health assessment including the dilation to evaluate the structures in the back of the eye. Components of this examination may include: blood pressure, intraocular pressure, visual field screening, computer vision analysis with cornea evaluation, thorough case history, visual acuities, refractive state determination, extra-ocular muscle and pupil testing, biomicroscopy examination, including an examination of lids, cornea, and sclera, subjective findings, far point and near point, assessment of binocular function, amplitude or range of accommodation, ophthalmoscopic examination, including an evaluation of media and fundus. A diagnosis and treatment plan is provided which may include a prescription for eyewear.

Contact Lens Fitting and Evaluation

Determination of the appropriate contact lenses for the vision and eye health needs of the patient, evaluation of the corneal health, and evaluation of the visual status with the contact lenses. A one-time progress evaluation is included to evaluate the overall vision, comfort and fit of the contact lenses. Components may include assessment and determination of appropriate contact lenses, prescription, contact diameter and base curve, biomicroscopic evaluation of the adnexa, eyelids and eyelashes, cornea, corneal surface, tear film, bulbar and palpebral conjunctive. The fitting of the contact lens may include evaluation of the refractive status with the contact lenses, contact lens movement, contact lens rotation, contact lens stability and comfort.

Ophthalmologic Evaluation

Medical evaluation of the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. Components of this examination may include a blood pressure, intraocular pressure, visual field screening, thorough case history, visual acuities, extra-ocular muscle and pupil evaluation, biomicroscopy examination, including an examination of lids, cornea, and sclera, and ophthalmoscopic examination, including an evaluation of media and fundus. Additional testing may be needed including a threshold visual field, fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, gonioscopy and corneal topography. A diagnosis and treatment plan is provided which may include a prescription for medication.

We offer a wide variety of ophthalmic frames. Designer eyewear, sports eyewear, and even pediatric eyewear. Also, offer a wide variety of ophthalmic lenses and coatings to meet all your vision needs.

We accept most major medical insurance including Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Signa, and many others. We also accept Vision Insurance including Vision Service Plan (VSP), Davis Vision, and many others. Please ask our staff if you have any questions about your insurance options.

The Doctor

Dr. Bradley Kardatzke, OD was born and raised in Texas. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas with concentrations in Biology and Psychology. He received his Doctor in Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He received his second Doctorate degree at the University of Toledo, Ohio. Additionally, he received a Masters' degree in Business Administration from Amber University in Garland, Texas.

Dr. Kardatzke is a board certified therapeutically trained optometrist, as well as, an Optometric Glaucoma specialist. He is a member of ABCMO or the American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry. Also, he is a member of NORA or Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association.

Dr. Kardatzke continues to participate in industry focus groups, as well as, discussion concerning prominent issues in eye care. He participates in education forums around the country including recent conferences in Texas, California, Ohio, New York, and Colorado. He has participated in International educational forums in England, France, and Japan.

The Staff

The staff of Irving Eye Care prides itself on being well trained, courteous and professional. The staff is trained in all areas of state and federal healthcare regulations, diagnostic testing and coding, as well as, documentation requirements of ocular disease. The staff participates in vision and eye health exam data collection, contact lens fittings and assessments, ophthalmic frame fitting and assessment, as well as, customization of ophthalmic lenses and coatings for individual vision and eye health needs.

The Facility

Irving Eye Care, formally Texas State Optical of Irving, was founded by Dr. William Coleman, OD in the late 1950s. He retired in 1998 and Dr. Kardatzke carries on the fine tradition of exceptional patient eyecare. Irving Eye Care is located at 708 North MacArthur Blvd, one mile south of Highway 183 on MacArthur Blvd.
